Ikiru 生きる

A European tea house rooted in Japanese tradition.

Ikiru Tea was founded to shape a more refined matcha culture in Europe. Built on direct sourcing, disciplined evaluation, and a deep respect for Japanese craft.

We believe energy is not about speed, but about presence. Not simply to exist, but to live with awareness and purity.

Ikiru (生きる) translates to “to live, with intention”. This philosophy guides how we source, select, and present every tea.

Our work is guided by one principle: consciously sourced tea helps you return to presence, even amid the demands of modern life.

Ikiru Tea

How we work

Ikiru Tea works exclusively with established tea regions in Japan, where matcha production is deeply rooted in tradition.

We select single-origin matcha and carefully composed blends based on cultivar, harvest season, and milling technique. Each batch is produced in small quantities and evaluated for smoothness, umami, and mouthfeel, both as usucha and as a matcha latte.

Every tea is assessed using an evaluation model developed specifically for Ikiru, informed by Japanese tea experts and structured tasting approaches from specialty coffee and wine.

This allows us to assess matcha with both cultural respect and technical clarity, before any sourcing decision is made.

The result is matcha that is refined, dependable, and suited for both everyday rituals and special moments.

Designed with restraint

We create with intention, our packaging and presentation are deliberately minimal, allowing the tea itself to take precedence. Materials are selected for integrity, not excess. The focus remains on clarity in design, sourcing and taste.

Disciplined Quality

Every tea in our collection is selected through a structured evaluation process. We assess aroma, texture, sweetness, bitterness balance, and finish. Only teas that meet our internal standards are released.

Respect for Craft

In Japanese tea culture, sustainability is not a trend, it is part of the craft. We believe that high-quality, traditional Japanese tea should always be made with respect for the environment and the people behind it.

How we bring Ikiru to life

Ikiru exists for those who seek more than a trend and recognise matcha as craft.

It is a deliberate pause in the day where focus, calm, and clarity converge.

Our role is not simply to sell tea, but to define a more refined matcha culture in Europe, built on disciplined sourcing, rigorous evaluation, and deep respect for Japanese tradition.

We integrate this ritual into contemporary European life not as a fleeting novelty, but as a practice designed to endure.

Grounded in European retail experience and guided by Japanese tea craft, we translate tradition into something precise, relevant, and lasting.
